Kniepertjes (homemade ice cream cones) - recipe with step-by-step photos

A while ago while in The Netherlands, we discovered these sweet thin waffles and we decided to try to do it ourselves.

You need a special machine for this, which can be bought on Amazon.

Ingredients for 30 thin waffles:
  • 120 grams of wheat flour
  • 110 milliliters of milk
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 60 grams of butter
  • 1 egg
  • a bit of salt
  • a bit of vanilla sugar

Mix the flour with the sugar and the salt.

Add the melted and then cooled butter, the milk, the egg and the vanilla sugar and mix until well incorporated.

The batter should be between thick, but still liquid (thicker than for crepes, though).

Heat up the cone maker and then pour in the middle of it 1 spoon with batter. Press the upper lid for 2 seconds and let it covered until the led switches off (you can check to see if it's ready after 15 seconds, depending on how brown you want to be). In any case, please read the instructions of the machines before use and follow them.

When ready take them out carefully and roll them quickly, because they are soft only while hot. After a few seconds they get crispy.

You can eat them with cream, on top of cakes or as they are.
